Storm Hy-Road
The HY-ROAD™ is the latest release in the Thunder™ Series of balls. HY-ROAD™ is the perfect complement to the 2007 solid ball of the year; the T-ROAD™ Solid. The combination between core and cover gives pro shop operators the widest range of drilling layouts. The continuous motion of the HY-ROAD™ creates a consistent reaction for many styles of bowlers; a great bench mark ball. The Storm Hy-Road contains a Modified Inverted Fe2 Technology wrapped in a R2S Hybrid Coverstock that is sanded down to 1500 grit and polished. This combination was created to provide drillers with the most drilling options available. This ball is designed to excel on heavy to medium-heavy oil conditions. The highly aggressive R2S™ hybrid coverstock is designed for heavy to medium-heavy oil, hybrid has two different blends of resin, ½ solid, ½ pearl (smoother break point than pearl coverstocks and reacts evenly on fresh and carry-down), easy to adjust by using either Abralon® or Scotch-Brite® pads, holds its shape longer, hybrid cover is easily maintained, enhanced durability, and develops friction by foot print and surface contact. The Modified Inverted Fe2 Technology core helps lower the balls RG, creates a heavy powerful roll, increases ball's flare potential, bench mark core, fits many styles and releases, proven history of performance

No matter what ball I use, when my game suffers, out comes the Hyroad. It never fails me! Helped bring my average up from 140 to 185, with many games around 210-220. This ball never stays home when I am bowling

Use Anytime with Confidence
Really reliable and forgiving. The thick shell and Fe2 core really seem to send the pins flying around. I feel like I get more strikes from less than perfect shots with this ball. The hybrid cover holds the line if I pull it in the oil, and recovers well from the outside. I can start with this ball by just adjusting my speed down a little or use it later in the night if I’m struggling with carry down and lanes are getting beat up. Seems to blend the lane out nicely for me as a lower rev stroker. Great all around ball as advertised for many years. Always in my bag. I do have an “older” model with 1500 grit polished… but I knocked the shine off with a 3K pad anyway. Seems to be just a tad earlier and easier to read like that for me. The cover is definitely easy to change and responds well to it. Can’t go wrong with a HyRoad.

The lane always comes to a Hy-Road
What a great product!, The Hyroad is the best ball I have ever thrown!! It goes long and strong down the lane with a great backend reaction crushing the pins, The Hyroad is my go to ball. No matter how bad I'm bowling I can go to my Hyroad, I'm by no means a great bowler I bowl between 130 and 150 every time. So it's helped me to not be all over the place and better my game. If you don't have one of these in your bag, do yourself a favor and go get one!! Storm hit a Home Run!!

Best ball ever made
The hyroad...or as I call it Ole Reliable. This is a must have anywhere you go gets through the front part of the lane and just unleashes ok the backend with great continuation through the pins. There's a reason that storm hasn't stopped making this ball. It's just too good The back end motion is so great and the pin carry with this ball is absurd. A little high or trips the for a little light it's smacks around the light mixer. Everyone should have a "ole reliable" in their bag. Stop waiting and get yours now.

I'm by no means a great bowler and I only purchased my own because I was tired of looking for decent house balls. I was a very inconsistent bowler. I would get 160 one game and 75 the next. A FANTASTIC ball!!!!
I am a 16 year old high school bowler, and i was looking for a ball that i could use to adapt to oily lane conditions and this ball was PERFECT! I could not be any more satisfied. Since i have been using this ball my average went from a 146 to a 167!! The hook it produces on the back of the lane is amazing, it hooks into the pocket perfectly! This was soooo worth the money! No complaints at all :)

Didn't work for one but GREAT for me!
This ball originally belonged to another bowler and then it was redrilled and given to me. My average has done nothing but improve since. Very forgiving ball and hits hard. I found this ball to perform GREAT on all conditions that I've come across. Currently averaging 194 and have purchased another for a back up to be drilled at a later date. Trust me, I rub it in everytime when I see the ball's previous owner and thank him

Follow the Road to WINNING!
Layout- Pin under ring, cg shifted positive, medium width/depth hole down by the thumb.
Lets face it, I am a staff member who never had drilled one, so I just had to. I was pleased with the way the ball rolled- it actually cornered more than I had anticipated considering the Hybrid cover and reputation this ball has for being smooth and controllable. All that really means to me is that I'm more apt to use this ball from the track in and not from the track out when playing the lanes. I love the way the ball looks and smells (I like the fruity scents better than the aromatherapy scents for sure), it just feels..... Familiar. That's a good thing for bowling, because it makes you more comfortable and relaxed. I was stoked to see that this ball is going to remain in the line this year- it is still prolly my best selling mid-range ball.

Love this Ball
Just got this ball a week ago after a lot of research. I was a pretty straight bowler with my previous ball. My average with my previous ball was around the 140-150 range. Right out of the box I threw a 198 with the Hy-Road.. My first league game last night with the Hy-Road, I threw my first 600 series! I had yet to even throw a 500 series with my first ball!!! This ball is just amazing. Seems to find the pocket everytime! A lot of the credit goes to Glen at the Pro Shop for the awesome drilling job! Highly recommend this ball!

My last season average = 186. I used an old special agent and felt that I was much better than what I was producing on the lanes. I bought the Hy-Road at an exceptional price from Bowling.Com. This season, my average is 204. This ball fits many different style, I can throw it any way I want and it will always track to the pocket.

Great Ball
Right out of the box, used on typical house shot where the lanes were a little tighter than normal. Moved my feet a few boards right and crushed the pocket, as the lanes broke down I moved left slightly and the ball still hit great. Pin just below middle finger and the reaction is smooth but strong.

Awesome entry level choice
After being away from the game for 11 years because of an injury, I returned this past season. Not knowing how the game had changed I went to my local proshop professional and he suggested the Storm Hyroad. What a great choice. I had been a 200 avg.before my injury I was concerned what kind of avg I could carry through out the season. Well the game had changed but because of the Storm Hyroad I was able to carry a 194 avg. which I was very pleased with. Thanks Storm!!!

MOST CONSISTENT BALL I ROLL
Bowling in league = fun. Bowling in league since owning the Hy-Road = THE BEST EXPERIENCE I'VE EVER HAD BOWLING!!! I used to average 180's. I'm now averaging about a 200 average. I've bowled my first 600 series recently and was close to a 700 four times already. I've had the ball about 2 weeks since mid April. I stand with left foot at about the 20 board and aim at the 12 board. Rolls in very smooth and hits harder than Superman. Even when the oil starts to dry, the ball will read the lane and still come in strong. If you don't get great scores with the ball, it's only due to operator error. This ball has saved my team from losing almost everytime we needed the win. I wish i worked for Storm so that I would get paid for all this promoting I did.

A Leathal Weapon
I bought this ball 04/09/10. I bowled in a tournament the next day. 1st game 233. 2nd game 236. 3rd game 147 because I had no chance to win I started experimenting. I just finished my first year of league bowling with an avg. of 174. I've never bowled back to back 230's AND THIS WAS THE FIRST TIME I USED IT! This ball is going to be a leathal weapon in a couple of weeks when I bowl in my next tourney. It hits like a runaway truck. It's great on oily lanes

Great Ball! Great Service!!
Because of joint problems, I have moved down from 16 and 15 pound equipment to 14 pounders. I was worried about using such a light ball but I shouldn't have been. What a great product! I got some recommendations from better bowlers than myself and the pro-shop staff at Sunset Lanes in Moorhead MN and decided to go with the Hyroad. This ball is great on fresh oil and continues being useful as the pattern breaks down. I highly recommend this ball to anyone looking to improve their performance. Also, if you have joint problems, the lighter weight really helped my wrist, arm, shoulder, and even my kness. I'll be coming back for more Storm products!

Oldie but a Goodie
I've been bowling for about 7mths.. I purchased a Storm Gravity,Energy, and Hyroad... I liked them all, but the Hyroad is my favorite. 150 average bowler.. First week with it in league play roled a 660 series.. 179,256,225..nice, but even sweeter. I used it 2/7/10 in league play did'nt do so great due to operator error.. hahahah, but, practiced aftewards and roled my first 300... Man if I could have only did it doing league. I'm sure I will get several sanctioned 300s using my hyroad.. Sweet bowling ball, I've purchased another one for back up already..

Dont Believe Everything You Read
ProShop dude said this ball was strong and gave great recovery but what I saw was the total opposite... This ball has great length but it keeps going and going if not drilled strong... My first attempt the ball was drilled alittle 2 weak for my ball speed and revs. Next layout was kicked completely to the right on the aggressive side... This ball will get down the lane and will the adjustment it will recover but the drill needs to be strong unless you really don't have that much oil

Reunited and it feels so good.
They say when you have something special never let it go. I got a HyRoad when it first came out but was shock to see how easily it cracked from the summer heat. After two cracked balls I invested in others like the CrossRoads and Pearl, both perform good but not great. Then my CrossRoad was stolen so I had an opportunity to go back and get an original HyRoad. Best decision ever. Avg jump 40 pins and above 200. This to me is the best ball ever made by Storm. I hope they continue the model for a very long time.

At first this ball didn't seem to hook much more than my old 16lb AMF King Cobra which helped me carry a 195 average the last year I bowled back in 2009. After bowling about 10 games with this ball (15lb) I am starting to see a lot better back end movement and carry, and more and more 200+ games which is what I was hoping for when I bought the ball.

Great Ball - my 2nd ever
I use this for league and of course practice. It's my second ball I have owned in my lifetime. I started with a 12 pound ball to start and wound up being too light later on (once I got my strength up). This Hy-Road is a 14 pound ball and it feels good to me. It's adaptable and predictable on the lane.

The key difference is that the Code Red is a higher performance line so the cover and weight block on the Code Red is stronger. The Hy-Road is Storms best selling ball of all time though and it may be because the Hy-Road is very versatile to handle a lot of lane conditions.

Question:
How does the Hy-Road compare to the Roto Grip All Out Show Off?
Have an answer to this question?
Answer:
The only difference between the two bowling balls is the lane conditions, everything else will be pretty much the same. The Hy Road is for medium-heavy oiled lane conditions and the All Out Show Off is for medium oiled lane conditions only.

Question:
Will the Hy Road and Marvel Pearl be a good combo? Or what about the Hy Road Pearl?
Have an answer to this question?
Answer:
The Hy Road will be a Hybrid coverstock and the Hy Road Pearl will have a pearl coverstock. The Hy Road will have a different performance than the Hy Road Pearl. The Marvel Pearl and the Hy Road Pearl will have the same coverstock so it will more than likely have the same performance.

Question:
I currently bowl with a 14 lb Storm rapid fire ball and would like to have a little more aggressive ball.what would be the next step up ?
Have an answer to this question?
Answer:
Since the Rapid Fire is a mid performance ball you would want to either go with an Upper Mid performance ball or even a High performance ball even.

Question:
What is the comparison between the storm IQ to the storm hy-road!
Have an answer to this question?
Answer:
The Storm IQ Tour is very similar to the Hy-Road but the IQ Tour has a solid cover with a duller finish while the Hy-Road has a hybrid cover with a polished finish so it will read later on the lanes with a little sharper backend hook when you compare the two.

Question:
I currently use a modern marvel and absolutely LOVE it. I'm in need of a new ball so badly. I've been contemplating this ball for years and throw more of a skid/snap over second arrow, between 12 - 14 mph. Would this be a comparable ball to what I currently use?
Have an answer to this question?
Answer:
The Modern Marvel would fall somewhere between the Hy-Road and the Super Son!Q. I might lean a little more toward the Super Son!Q but they are both comparable.

Question:
What is the difference between 13bound and 14bound
Have an answer to this question?
Answer:
The weight block changes when you go from 14lbs down to 13lbs. However, the RG numbers do not change much because they make sure to keep the performance very similar as you drop weight in the ball. The 14lb has a RG 2.58 and RG Dif 0.037 while the 13lb has a RG 2.59 and RG Dif 0.045

Question:
Iam a down and in bowler looking for a new storm ball with good back in power.
Have an answer to this question?
Answer:
The Hy-Road had been a benchmark ball from Storm for a long time and the polished finish help this ball to go longer on the lane and have a decent back end hook. If you want more hook you may have to go to a higher performance line to get the most back end hook but you get a great value with this option.

Have an answer to this question?
Question:
I am currently using an old Storm La Nina. Not knowing the specs on that ball, how does the Hy Road compare?
Have an answer to this question?
Answer:
The Storm La Nina was a solid particle cover with a very dull out of the box finish. The Hy-Road has a polished finish and would go much later on the lanes for a sharper backend hook. The next best option to the La Nina right now would be something with a dull finish like the Storm Phaze II or Roto Grip Idol. I hope this helps.

Question:
Can I use this ball after the Storm Phaze III
Have an answer to this question?
Answer:
The Hy-Road would not really be a good back up option to the Phaze III. The Hy-Road would be very similar in performance and it is not much different in overall hook potential so if you needed a back up option to the Phaze III you may go to something like the Electrify series which will be a more noticeable drop and help you handle lighter oil conditions better.

Question:
Hello! The Hustle Ink is my benchmark ball. I have it sanded at 2000 grit. I'm a 2-hander that throws at about 16 mph. I like the Hustle, but it does have trouble when the lanes are oily. I'm considering the Axiom as well, but I think it may be too aggressive. I know the Hustle and the Hy-Road are both mid-performance. Do you think the Hy-Road is a good addition without being too aggressive? Thanks!
Have an answer to this question?
Answer:
Since you have dulled the Hustle to 2000 grit I think you would like the Axiom more than the Hy-Road. The Axiom will be stronger and can handle heavy oil better than the Hy-Road and you would not usually start the night with a ball that breaks later on the lanes and then move to a ball that reads earlier. People tend to move to a ball that reads later as the night goes on and the lanes dry up or at least a ball that has the same reaction as the ball they start with so that would be the Axiom at 3000 grit and then move to the Hustle at 2000 grit and you should do well with that set up.

Question:
I have a Astro physics but when the lane breaks down and dries out I find it hard to control. Will this ball help with that?
Have an answer to this question?
Answer:
If you needed something for medium to lighter oil you may prefer something a little lower than the Hy-Road because the Hy-Road is rated still for medium and some heavier oil conditions. Maybe something like the Electrify Pearl would be a good transition down and it is also a pearl like the AstroPhysix so you would get a similar reaction just in lighter oil.

Question:
Why does the website under storm hyroad say rg 2.52 diff .58 and the box it comes in says rg 2.57 diff .46 ?
Have an answer to this question?

We apologize for any inconvenience on this. The specs in the description look like they are for the 16lb weight and the specs you mentioned are for 15lbs. The different weights will have different RG values. Here is a link to view the different RG specs for each weight on Storms website: https://www.stormbowling.com/hy-road-5

Question:
Will the Hyroad match up good with my Hyroad X?
Have an answer to this question?
Answer:
They are very similar because they use a similar weight block and they are both finished at 1500 grit polished finish. However, the Hy-Road has a hybrid cover which gives it slightly more length and it has a slightly stronger weight modified weight block to help it have a little more hook potential. The Hy-Road X will read just a little earlier but they both work well in medium oil conditions. I am not sure you would need to necessarily have both balls unless you have a need for two options that are pretty close with just a little different length.

Question:
My ball speed is between 12 and 13. My current ball goes straight down the alley and then hooks into the pocket almost at the very end. Would this ball have a similar reaction
Have an answer to this question?
Answer:
This ball will have a polished finish to help give it good length on the lane before it reacts. If you use this ball in medium to heavier oil conditions it will go longer on the lane. If you use this in more medium to lighter oil it will read earlier on the lane and it may not work as well as you would like.

Question:
How does the high road compare to the high road X?
Have an answer to this question?
Answer:
The Hy-Road would give you a little more length than the Hy-Road X due to the hybrid coverstock on the Hy-Road and a solid cover on the Hy-Road X. Also the weight block on the Hy-Road will have a higher hook potential helping it work better in medium and some heavier oil while the X was mostly for medium to lighter oil.

Question:
Does this ball compare with the hy-road pearl
Have an answer to this question?
Answer:
The only difference between the two is the coverstock. They have the same weight block and same finish so a pearl coverstock will read a little later than a hybrid coverstock. This will mean the hybrid will have a little smoother reaction on the backend and the pearl has a more angular reaction on the backend.

Question:
Does this ball compare with the hy-road pearl
Have an answer to this question?
Answer:
The Hy-Road has a hybrid coverstock versus the Hy-Road Pearl which is has a pearl coverstock. This is the only difference and this will give the Hy-Road a slightly earlier read on the lanes and a slightly smoother reaction while the Pearl will go a little longer and be a little more angular on the backend.

Question:
I currently use a Pitch Black as my strike ball. Would the Hy-Road work better? I understand that the Hy-Road will hook more than the Pitch Black so I would need to adjust.
Have an answer to this question?
Answer:
The Hy-Road will have a higher hook potential and also will go longer on the lanes before it reacts. The Hy-Road can also handle a little more oil than the Pitch Black so if you needed something with more hook potential then you may like the Hy-Road better.

Question:
I'm a left handed bowler will this be a good ball for me
Have an answer to this question?
Answer:
Yes, this ball will work for either right or left handed bowlers. You would just have to make sure the ball is drilled for a left handed bowler so that this reacts correctly for you.

Question:
Has Storm released anything comparable since the original release? Will the Phaze V or the Fate match anything close?
Have an answer to this question?
Answer:
Since Storm still has the Hy-Road they have not really made something identical to this ball. The original Hy-Road probably fits somewhere between the Phaze III and Phaze V but they have made so many bowling balls that were a play off of the Hy-Road because of how well this ball worked as a benchmark ball.

Question:

Question:
Can you use this ball on a short pattern
Have an answer to this question?
Answer:
This ball is rated for medium to heavy oil conditions. If the lane conditions are too short it may cause the ball to read earlier and have a roll out effect on the backend so it will not finish as well. It may depend on how short the pattern is but this ball could work down into some medium oil conditions or medium length conditions with no problems.
