Hammer Black Widow Viz-A-Ball

The Hammer Black Widow Viz-A-Ball is the first Viz-A-Ball to have a performance core! This plastic bowling ball contains the iconic Gas Mask core found in other Black Widow performance balls. By adding a performance core to this Viz-A-Ball it provides more hitting power and takes this ball to a higher level. This ball is great as a powerful spare ball or when up against really dry lanes.

Black widow viz-a-ball

I've had this ball for a few weeks now and I love this ball. I use it for a spare ball while the lane's have oil on it but when the lane's dry up I use it as my primary ball because it's little hook and hits hard at the end do to the gas mass core. Great job hammer for making this ball. 🙂👍🕷

Widow Viz-A-Ball

2 very quick thoughts on the new Hammer Widow Viz-A-Ball. First, it is an extremely cool looking plastic ball that will draw alot of attention. Second, if you are looking for performance, the Widow Viz-A-Ball under the right conditions and proper surface preparation, will give performance. I drilled one primarily for spares and as I always do for any spare ball, I knock the shine off with a Siaair pad. The layout I used on mine was 40x4x20. On leftover THS, was able to get right on top of the dry to the right and where the Widow Viz-A-Ball has the Gas Mask core, was able to get the ball to tip and go through the pins effectively.

Pros:

Smacks the crap out of the pins

Cons:

on light or dry lanes it tends to leave flat pins.

Best Uses:

wet to medium conditions.

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

This is not a dry lane, light oil ball as advertised.

I love this ball its easy to control but if the lanes are to light then put this away. You can smack the pocket as much as you want on light shots but the balls intense backend will leave flat pins most of the time. The ball works better for me when the lanes are wet.

Question:

It sounds like a great ball, but is it primarily used as a spare ball?

11/12/2021 - By

Have an answer to this question?

Answer:

Yes, this ball is designed to go straight so it would be used for spares or for bowlers who prefer to throw straighter.

Question:

Will this ball react the same as a plastic ball with a pancake core?

12/8/2021 - By

Have an answer to this question?

Answer:

This ball has a performance weight block inside of a plastic cover so the ball is going to have more hook potential than a standard spare ball if you were to spin this and get it on lighter to drier lanes but in most situations this ball will go pretty straight and work well for spares.

Question:

I'm staying wth Hammer . I throw from mid to pocket . I'm looking for a ball throw as I do and stay on the line to pick up the 10 pin

2/23/2022 - By

Have an answer to this question?

Answer:

On most oil conditions this would work very well for a spare ball and help get that 10 pin but in lighter and dry conditions this ball might have a little hook potential which you would have to adjust for to get the 10 pin.

Question:

Do to age and a couple of bad legs, my speed is around 10-11 mph. Bowl on a dry outside house shot. I’m not good at staying behind the ball. Played with my t zone plastic last week and hooked it good and hit the pocket, not good on carry. Will this have some punch?

3/5/2022 - By

Have an answer to this question?

Answer:

This ball will be a slight step up from the TZone you have because it has a weight block but it has basically the same type of cover that the Tzone has which is not designed to grip or give hook potential. So you would get a little better reaction on this and better carry because of the weight block but not a high amount of hook by any means. Also you would probably only be able to see any kind of movement in lighter oil conditions.

Question:

How much does it hook

6/1/2022 - By

Have an answer to this question?

Answer:

While this ball does have a performance weight block it still has a Polyester coverstock which will mostly go straight if there is any oil. If the lanes get pretty dry then this could give you a little backend hook.

Question:

What core is on a 12lb ball

6/3/2022 - By

Have an answer to this question?

Answer:

The Gas Mask core is only in the 14-16lb weights. The 12-13 uses a different symmetric weight block.

Question:

can it be sanded ?

10/25/2022 - By

Have an answer to this question?

Answer:

This ball is made with an image and has a clear coat over the image. You could sand down but it may make it harder to see the image and over time you could sand down too far and sand off the picture. So with that said we would not recommend sanding it.

Question:

Because of my age, 74 yrs old, and an injury to my arm, my ball speed on a house shot is around 10 mph using a 12 lb ball. In an earlier post, you mentioned that a 12 lb. ball will have a symmetrical weight block as opposed to a “gas mask” type weight block. I’m looking for a ball that will go straight with a little hook at the back end. What can I expect from the symmetrical weight block?

9/7/2023 - By

Have an answer to this question?

Answer:

The weight block on this ball is designed to help the ball rotate but for most performance balls the weight block works together with the coverstock to help give you its reaction on the lane. In this case the coverstock is not giving you any hook potential and will not be able to grip in the oil. So the only part of the lane this ball may have some hook potential is on the backend of the lane and then it is really just reacting from the weight block. So if you need a ball that is not going to have a high hook potential this could be an option that would work well. However, if you wanted a ball that gives you a decent backend hook you may look at a ball that has a pearl reactive resin coverstock which would give more hook on the backend.

Question:

Can this ball be used for a strike ball and a spare ball

8/4/2024 - By

Have an answer to this question?

Answer:

This ball is designed to not have a very high hook potential. We list it as a spare ball because more of the spare ball options go straighter but you could use any of the spare balls as a strike ball too if you do not want a lot of hook for your strike ball.

8/4/2024 - By
